Job Summary
The Lead Payroll Tax Analyst is responsible for overseeing payroll tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation across all jurisdictions in which the organization operates. This role ensures accurate and timely tax filings, supports payroll operations, leads process improvements, and serves as the subject matter expert on payroll tax regulations. The position partners closely with Payroll, Finance, HR, and external authorities to mitigate risk and maintain compliance.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the end-to-end payroll tax compliance process, including calculation, filing, and payment of federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
• Monitor changes in payroll tax legislation and assess their impact on company processes and systems.
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation and submission of tax filings and statutory reports.
• Perform regular reconciliations of payroll tax accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Manage payroll tax audits and inquiries from government agencies.
• Develop, document, and improve payroll tax procedures and internal controls.
• Collaborate with payroll operations to ensure proper tax setup for employees and system configurations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to payroll team members.
• Support payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing related to tax functionality.
• Prepare management reports and analytics related to payroll tax activities.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5–8+ years of experience in payroll tax or payroll operations, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations.
• Experience with payroll systems (e.g., SAP, Workday, ADP, or similar platforms).
• Proven experience handling payroll tax audits and compliance reviews.
