Job Summary
The Lead Headend Engineer maintains the Telecommunications Network Management/Inside Plant
Responsibilities
- Support daily operations and project requests from the Area Manager.
- Support the implementation and integration of newer technology.
- Operation of Inside Plant with the goal to increase reliability and to ensure the network meets/exceeds Optimum specifications.
- Improve on and ensure reliable service by continuous network analysis while adapting to new technologies.
- Represent/back-fill for the Area Manager during periods in his/her absence.
- Completion of assigned projects on time and within budget.
- Ability to operate within budget guidelines.
- Ability to motivate and engage team, providing clear direction that demonstrates accountability, ownership, and an understanding of how the team's work and each individual can contribute to Optimum's success by translating organizational goals into team and individual goals.
- Ensure all employees demonstrate identified behaviors, that actions and decisions are made through the lens of the customer, and goals align with those outlined by the business.
- Maintain positive relationships by including others in decisions and discussions. Address and resolve conflict directly and constructively.
- Provide team with exposure to new ideas and new ways of looking at things. Encourage feedback and collaboration to drive further improvements.
- Monitor priorities, scorecards, and progress of team, and communicate any re-prioritization when necessary. Drive accountability for actions, commitments, and customer focus.
- Deliver ongoing feedback, coaching, development plans and training to reinforce appropriate behaviors, teach employees new skills, motivate employee to pursue higher levels of performance, mentor employees, and correct performance deficiencies, in a supportive environment of continuous development and professional growth. Measured via documentation of coaching session, development plans, training, and corrective action as appropriate.
- Ability to interact with other support groups to resolve technical issues and meet new product launches.
- Assure payroll time sheets are accurately completed and approved in a timely manner, including the management and approval of overtime usage.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for equipment and supplies.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned and designated as essential.
- Conduct formal individual performance reviews and discussions in line with the performance management process. Provide employees with formal performance feedback and coaching, discuss areas of focus going forward, and determine opportunities for improvement.
- Manage using professional conduct while holding team, peers, and yourself accountable for adherence to values, polices, and performance standards.
- Perform interviews and provide recommendations for open positions.
- Makes initial determination regarding whether an employee under his/her direction and control should be counseled and/or disciplined and makes recommendations as to the nature of the discipline regarding the same, including the issues of corrective actions and Performance Improvement Plans.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of Inside Plant design and operation. Ability to perform all the duties and responsibilities of the ISP Tech III role
- Thorough familiarity with all local/state/federal and FCC performance testing and regulations
- Full understanding of industry standards
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and trends and develop procedures to increase reliability that contributes to customer satisfaction
- Proven leadership skills
- Two years of Headend maintenance
- College, technical school, or equivalent preferred
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as required
- Ability to be on standby shift and 24-hour standby
- Skilled in the use of spreadsheets, desktop publishing, and word processing
- Strong analytical skills
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in good standing within the state of current residence.
