Position Summary

 

The Vice President & General Manager (VP/GM), New York Market serves as the senior business leader accountable for the overall performance of the New York market. This role owns market outcomes across subscriber growth, revenue, profitability, customer experience, area penetration, network performance, community engagement, and operational execution.

As the local business owner, the VP/GM is responsible for translating enterprise strategy into market-level execution while ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and operating standards. The VP/GM acts as the connective point across Sales, Marketing, Construction, Network Operations, Customer Experience, Government Affairs, and Human Resources to drive superior business results.

The VP/GM will lead with a general management mindset, balancing short-term performance objectives with long-term growth opportunities while ensuring exceptional customer and employee experience throughout the market.

This leader reports directly to SVP, Area Market Performance and is accountable for delivering market-specific business plans and strategic priorities.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

Market Performance & P&L Leadership

 

  • Own the overall financial and operating performance of the New York market, including revenue growth, subscriber acquisition, retention, profitability, and market share.
  • Deliver market-level performance against key business metrics, operating plans, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Analyze market trends, customer behaviors, competitive dynamics, and investment opportunities to drive sustainable growth.
  • Maintain accountability for achieving subscriber, penetration, customer experience, and financial targets.
  • Develop and execute market-specific action plans to address performance gaps and capitalize on growth opportunities.

 

Business Operations & Execution

 

  • Lead execution of all enterprise programs and initiatives within the market to ensure consistency and operational excellence.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities among Construction, Network Operations, Customer Operations, Marketing, and Sales organizations.
  • Ensure effective execution of capital investments, expansion initiatives, network upgrades, and service improvements.
  • Monitor operational performance, installation timeliness, service quality, and customer experience metrics.
  • Escalate market-specific challenges and recommend solutions that improve performance outcomes.

 

Sales & Customer Growth

 

  • Drive residential and SMB customer growth through effective execution across all sales channels.
  • Partner with Sales leadership to maximize performance in direct sales, retail, door-to-door, inbound, outbound, and partner channels.
  • Ensure local execution of national marketing campaigns while identifying market-specific opportunities to increase customer acquisition and retention.
  • Monitor competitive activity and develop local responses to protect and expand market share.
  • Foster strong relationships with community stakeholders to improve brand presence and customer engagement.

 

 

Community & Government Affairs Partnership

 

  • Serve as Optimum's executive representative within the New York market.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local municipalities, community leaders, economic development organizations, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Partner with Government Affairs to support franchise obligations, public policy initiatives, and expansion opportunities.
  • Represent the company at key community and industry events.

 

Leadership & Talent Development

 

  • Lead and develop a high-performing market leadership team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure strong succession planning and leadership development across critical market roles.
  • Partner with Human Resources to drive employee engagement, retention, workforce planning, and talent strategies.
  • Promote a business-owner mindset throughout the organization focused on sustainable market success.

 

Cross-Functional Leadership

 

  • Partner closely with HQ functional leaders to ensure successful implementation of enterprise initiatives.
  • Provide field insight and operational feedback to influence corporate strategy and decision-making.
  • Balance local market needs with enterprise priorities while maintaining alignment with company standards.
  • Drive collaboration across organizational boundaries to accelerate business outcomes.

 

Qualifications

 

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience in telecommunications, broadband, consumer services, utilities, retail, or another multi-site operating environment.
  • Prior P&L ownership with demonstrated accountability for financial performance and operational results.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional teams in complex operational environments.
  • Proven record of driving subscriber growth, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen with the ability to translate data into action.
  • Demonstrated capability leading through organizational transformation and change.

 

Preferred

 

  • Master's Degree (MBA preferred).
  • Telecommunications or broadband industry experience.
  • Experience working across both field operations and corporate functions.
  • Knowledge of competitive, regulatory, and operational dynamics within the New York market.

Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at time of hire for this position in the posted location is $178,500.00 - $255,000.00 / year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
